Tratturi streets timeless is the title of the exhibition promoted by the regions of Puglia and Abruzzo (open to the Fiera del Levante in Bari, until 9 December 2011) aims to rediscover tree the ancient streets of transhumance. Paths alive today, that branch in the green and in the tradition.
"September, let's go. It 'time to migrate. Now in the land of the Abruzzi my shepherds lascian the pens and go towards the sea down to the Adriatic wild green is like the pastures of the mountains. [...] And they go pel tratturo ancient floor, almost a erbal silent river, on the ruins of the ancient tree fathers. " So Gabriele D'Annunzio draws the streets of transhumance, the journey steeped fatigue that the shepherds of Abruzzo were making tree in mid-September to give fodder to the flock. And green grass and soft Tavoliere fed on sheep conducted a long way until the sbocciar of the first spring plants.
A path that is lost among the ranks of the time, which earns something magical in rediscovering farms and rural churches, wineries, mills and stone signals along these pathways primordial communication: the tracks of Abruzzo and Puglia. According to historical reconstructions of the tracks (from Lat. Trahaĕre, drag) initially had to be just dirt paths used by shepherds. These paths represent the only means of transmission of the agro-pastoral culture of the Mediterranean basin. The main artery was given by Tratturo Magno (or King's) that connected L'Aquila to Foggia. Well 244 km long, has changed over time, for the introduction of reforestation and field crops. Today the Tratturo Regio along the Alta Murgia: a road charge tree of the most scenic beauty typical of Puglia. Fields and olive groves alternate rows of vines that dress color the slopes. A path extraordinarily uneven spaces between pasture and arable land that attempt to steal place bladed, sinkholes and sinkholes. These are typical examples of karst, which connotes the whole area of Alta Murgia National Park, the first rural park in Italy.
Transhumance livestock occurred not only through the main road of the Tratturo Magno, but also through tree a series of sheep tracks "secondary", tratturelli, arms that joined it together the precious expanses of turf. Another important link is given by the cattle track n. 7 between Pescasseroli (Aq) and Candela (Fg). Bottom Tableland path was lost in the upper valley of the Carapelle, and then on to Isernia and the Sangro valley. Highlights include the tracks n. 6 (Lucera-Castel di Sangro), 14 (Foggia-Ofanto), n. 5 (Celano-Foggia), 21 (Melfi-Castellaneta). Visible traces remain in the Bari region of ancient cattle track 18, which connected to Barletta Lump. Along 124 km across the lands of Andria, Trani, Corato, Ruvo di Puglia, Monte Suagno (road Quasano - Cassano), Bito, Toritto.
Today overlook new initiatives aimed at rediscovering the ancient paths of transhumance. The Charter of Tratturi, updated by the Commissioner for the reinstatement of Tratturi of Foggia in 1959 on the previous edition of 1911, is still an important document aimed at understanding and preservation of this ancient tree civilization. The regions of Abruzzo and Puglia, together with those of Molise, Campania and Basilicata, are planning the construction of concrete steps to safeguard and revive this valuable heritage, vital to the existence of those who preceded us. An existence that drew strength from direct contact with the earth and symbiotic, where man and nature still knew talk and hear. Now, "The transhumance and Regi sheep tracks" are on track to become a UNESCO heritage tree (nomination since 2005) in a continuous and constant return to the lost beauty of our origins, tree in perfect harmony with the environment.
